MCBs are the small, plug-in or DIN-rail mounted breakers you find in residential load centers and light commercial panelboards. They typically range from 1A to 125A and provide thermal-magnetic trip protection.
The "miniature" refers to physical size, not necessarily current capacity. A 100A MCB is still far smaller than an equivalent MCCB.
MCCBs are the workhorses of commercial and industrial electrical distribution. The "molded case" refers to the insulated housing that encases the operating mechanism, making them more robust than MCBs and capable of higher interrupting ratings.
Key advantages of MCCBs over MCBs include adjustable trip settings, higher fault current interrupting capacity, and availability in larger frame sizes up to 2500A. Many MCCBs support optional accessories such as shunt trips, auxiliary contacts, and under-voltage releases.
Air circuit breakers are open-frame devices where the arc extinguishing medium is air (as opposed to oil or SF6 in older designs). ACBs are almost always fully electronically controlled, with programmable trip units that allow precise setting of overcurrent, short-time delay, ground fault, and zone selective interlocking parameters. They are available in drawout (removable) or fixed configurations.
